The internet is giving me two definitions, but I think it’s safe to say it involves bored kids and knives.

I finished up this logo for Mumbleypeg Productions, a film production company in New York. It was my first attempt at creating a logotype entirely from scratch. It may not be too fancy or involved, but it’s unique.

I only made the necessary letters for the company name but really considered making the rest and fleshing out a full font. I wish there was a better software solution for the process, but there isn’t really anything for Windows other than FontLab, and that’s quite a pricey commitment.

Maybe some day.

I don’t know the man or the parrot but apparently they’re good buddies—or were at this moment anyway. I’ve never been to Reddit before but it’s top stories always show up on my favorite news aggregator, Popurls. I usually scan the headlines just out of curiosity, but most of the time it doesn’t look like anything too exciting.

Now this was a couple of weeks ago already so I forgot what the headline was, but it seemed captivating enough for me to want to check it out. Again, I forget the specifics but this person’s father was going through some rough patch and needed some cheering up. The submitter presented a picture of their father and his parrot, which was apparently the only time the bird had allowed someone to hold it, and asked for people to “Photoshop” the picture to help cheer up pops.

It was a pretty poor quality picture, I think it was taken from a phone, which meant that there really wasn’t too much magic that could be done in photoshop. Instead, I took it into illustrator and traced out a nice clean vector illustration.

It was a nice photo->vector learning experience for me and the the Reddit submitter seemed genuinely pleased. I think she(?) was thinking about turning it into a t-shirt.

Sorry about your dad’s awkward smile.

We decided on a design that looks and feels pretty simple and straight-forward, but is actually loaded with quite a bit of content. I custom-built everything on top of the Wordpress platform, which means Keith is able to easily add information to the site without having to get dirty with the HTML.

The first one was a foray into Drupal, which was a good learning experience, but I’ve been doing so much with Wordpress lately that it just made sense to make the change. The past design proved to be a little less personal than desired and ended up being a separate component instead of melding with the portfolio, which got a little confusing. Hopefully this helps keep me motivated to update.
